Job Goal

Under the direction of the superintendent, plan, organize, develop, disseminate, and market information about district events, functions, and activities. Maintain relationships with news media, assist in designing and editing news releases and promotional materials, and support internal and external communications.

Performance Responsibilities

1. Serve as primary media contact and information liaison between the school system and the community, maintaining open communication channels and responding promptly to information requests.
2. Support promotion and marketing of Shelby County Public Schools and its programs.
3. Develop informational materials in various media, including visual productions, printed materials, newsletters, and press releases, to communicate district news in a journalistic style.
4. Create and distribute news releases about district activities, working with media to highlight school district initiatives.
5. Maintain and update the district website for easy access to information.
6. Arrange press conferences as needed.
7. Organize community volunteers for Defense of Learning Days.
8. Oversee the FRYSC program in Shelby County.
9. Attend district events and board meetings to communicate and unify district goals and culture.
10. Recommend and implement communication mechanisms to convey district activities clearly and creatively.
11. Collaborate with the district administrative team to address public relations issues.
12. Participate in civic organizations and serve as a writer for publications as needed.
13. Set objectives and plan budgets for the districts public information program.
14. Develop and disseminate communication strategies supporting district goals.
15. Inform community groups about district activities through various programs.
16. Promote connections among education, workforce, and economic development to prepare students for success.
17. Speak at public meetings on issues related to the district as requested.
18. Engage in activities, conferences, and webinars to stay updated on industry developments.
