The Cellar Operator position tends to the day-to-day operation of Cellar Equipment. The position follows standard work methods and practices safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible. Responsibilities include performing Cellar I tasks such as cleaning and sanitizing equipment, applying good housekeeping practices, performing wine movements, topping barrels, adding chemicals to wine, operating less complex equipment, and measuring and calculating workplace data. The role also involves performing moderately complex cellar and barrel tasks including assembling blends per Winemaker instructions, adding fining agents for clarifying wine, operating moderately complex winery equipment such as crossflow and lenticular filters, pumps, hoists, crush equipment, press, forklifts, shipping and receiving of tankers, and scale operation. The operator must be capable of double checking winemaker calculations to maintain wine integrity and quality, ensure efficient utilization of all winery equipment, lead harvest employees to achieve work tasks, provide guidance and support to staff, provide feedback on best practices, troubleshoot and problem solve cellar issues, ensure timely and accurate completion of all wine work orders, participate actively in the 5S program, comply with sustainability policies, and follow safe operating procedures to safeguard safety. Minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma/GED, 2-5 years of Cellar/Harvest Operator experience, ability to operate cellar equipment and machinery, basic math skills, ability to use D.O./O2 meters, wear respirators, enter confined spaces, good organizational and multi-task skills, computer skills including programming HMI panels and barcode scanners, and flexibility with scheduling. Preferred qualifications include experience with Microsoft Office, forklift experience, and Weight Master experience. Physical requirements include ability to stand, walk, sit, move up to 55 lbs, use hands, climb stairs/ladders, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and have good vision. The work environment includes outdoor/indoor work, warm/cold climates, wet surfaces, exposure to loud noise, fumes, toxic chemicals, and moving mechanical parts.
