Job Description

Our client, one of the world's largest automotive manufacturers, is hiring a Computer-Aided Design, (CAD) Modeler to join their design center in Santa Monica, CA.

As a CAD Modeler you would be responsible for translating design sketches into highly refined 3D models in Autodesk Alias. The ideal candidate will have had previous experience designing for vehicles / cars. This role will work closely with exterior, interior, accessories and color and trim teams to develop and execute the proposals of the studio.

Requirements:

CAD modeling – (85%)

• Works as part of a team of exterior designers, interior designers, color and trim designers, and CAD modelers and fabrication modelers.
• Interprets project needs and develops concepts to suit stated purpose of projects.
• Develops surface data based on sketches, renderings, engineering drawings, and also based on own design proposals.
• Is an integral player in solving design and engineering conflicts, theme translation and surfacing problems.
• Provides support for VR and Animation

Visualization – (10%)

• Develops model data for virtual presentations of vehicles exteriors, interiors and components.
• Prepares and tracks time/project-procedure schedules in coordination with the head of studio.
• Delivers presentations of final results on the scheduled dates.

Project Tracking/Coordination – (5%)

• Organizes and estimates the time to complete projects/assignments.
• Prepares and tracks time/project-procedure schedules in coordination with the head of studio.
• Delivers data on-time for scheduled presentations and technical checks.

Required Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Automotive or Industrial Design or equivalent
• 5+ Years of Modeling & Design Experience
• Advanced level of Autodesk Alias CAD surface modeling. Able to develop water-tight A-class surfacing.
• CAD visualization skills (Alias, VRED, Blender or Unreal Engine)
• Extensive knowledge of vehicle packaging and hard points
